What is Aspiration (draining of fluid)

Joint aspiration is a medical procedure where fluid is removed from a joint using a needle and syringe. This procedure is commonly performed to diagnose, relieve pressure, and treat joint conditions. At the Injury Hub we mainly provide aspirations to relieve pain and swelling by removing excess fluid from a joint in such cases like knee arthritis or in some cases for diagnostic purposes when removing blood from a joint indicating a fracture has occurred within the joint. It’s also recommended before administering steroid or hyaluronic acid if the joint is swollen.

Some treatments which benefit from using this method are:

  • Swollen joints
  • Joint pain relief
  • Knee arthritis
